2005 JW Morris Cabernet Sauvignon

Price: $2.99 @ Trader Joe’s

What They Said:

As typical with these Bronco wines there is not a word to be found on the web. This one has yet to even make it into the blog sphere.

What I Think:

After numerous pleasant experiences with their Gewurztraminer I thought I would branch out and try a few other offerings. I started here. In a word, discouraging. This tasted manufactured, and very poorly so. This wine was very high in acid and showed little to no fruit. Stay away from this one. My branching out experience is likely over.

Rating: Avoid It

  1. George,

They have dropped it in the SF Bay area as well, including the Merlot. Very upset since the Merlot was my favorite table wine. I have been told that Bronco uses the same formulation for the Grove Ridge label sold at Cost Plus Imports. I have not had a chance to try it.

  2. @George I think the JW Morris was a TJ’s only label. Perhaps the Grove Ridge Bill mentions is the best option, guessing it clocks in at more than $2.99 though. Might be worth checking this list of the other Bronco labels, see which they have at Trader Joe’s and try a few in hopes of finding one of those Merlot’s agreeable.

  3. My husband I shop at Trader Joe’s in Pasadena and I was told they will no longer be carrying JW Morris wines. This was our favorite wine, we have NEVER had a bad wine from them. Is there another store that caries the JW Morris Wines? We have enjoyed their wines so much.

  4. Okay – so after finding out the dissapointing information that Trader Joes would no longer be carrying the JW Morris reds, I set out on a quest to find another of their wines that was comparable in both price and taste. After happily (and in some cases, not so happily) sipping my way through about 20 different brands of merlot, I have come to the conclusion that, while none quite meet up to the expectations of the JW Morris, the closest is the Charles Shaw Merlot. Best of all, it clocks in at a whopping $1.99 per bottle – this may have been on sale though. For all you grieving JW Morris fans, definately give the Charles Shaw brand a try!!
