After a nice chat with my local TJ's wine (who was very confident in this Grand Reserve Petit Verdot), I decided to give it a try. Even though I was a bit apprehensive, I bought four bottles as I had roughly 4o family/friends coming over for Christmas.

Simply put..., it was delicious. I tasted just after corking and I sampled another bottle after letting it breath for a full 24 hours. It had a bit more zest with very little breathing and mellowed a bit after 24 hours. I'll let this bottle breath for 2 to 4 hours on my next go round.

The bouquet is exciting with plenty of berry and life. The wine is deep--plenty of character--and has a splendid rich flavor that was a pleasant companion to the turkey and would also be a great rib eye date. It has a nice balance of tannins and goes down with a smooth finish.

I went back today and bought all 11 remaining bottles on the shelf. I think this bottle will mature nicely and continue to get more velvety with time.

The 2007 Cellier du Rhone CdP is also out of stock at the TJ's in my part of SoCal. However, a TJ clerk assures me that a re-supply should be delivered and on the shelves by this Tuesday, 12/29. The reason for the price reduction, the TJ clerk tells me, is that the label shape doesn't conform to the bottle's shape causing a label glitch.

Since you've been talking about family dinner menus from 12/25, I'd like to add my two cents by saying that my family gathering enjoyed a 2003 Soda Canyon Ranch Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa) with bacon wrapped filet mignon, stuffed mushrooms and grllled eggplant/zuccini slathered in pesto sauce.

Happy New Year!

Angela/Chuck I decided to grab a bottle of the RSVP and was pleasantly surprised. Very frothy to start, it shows nice lemon flavors with acidity to balance on the finish.

As for the CdP, I've struck out at two stores, hitting a 3rd tomorrow am. I grabbed a bottle of the Sebastopol Hills last week and am looking forward to it. Have you had it yet? I also got a tip from DP that a TJ's Grand Reserve Pinot from Monterrey will arrive shortly for only $7. Keeping my fingers crossed it is a good one!

Glad to hear the fam was a fan of the CdP, we had the 2004 Rosenblum Heritage Clone San Francisco Bay Petite Sirah which as always was a big hit and this time a perfect match for the prime rib with scalloped potatoes. Happy holidays to you!

The Cellier du Rhone CdP was the hit of the dinner and my family polished off the bottle while leaving the Cab & Petit Verdot alone.
Gotta agree about the Petit. It does do a disappearing act on the finish but I really like the flavors and it went very well with my sister-in-law's homemade Oreo truffles. Now all I have to do is drink and cook with the leftovers this coming week. Still working on one of the last of my two bottle of '07 Castle Rock Pinot Noir as well. Really nice with salami.

BARGAIN ALERT!
Hey, the 2007 Cellier du Rhone CdP, which is delicious, was just reduced from $19.99 to $9.99, at least in Northern CA. I know I'll be picking up at least one for myself. Oh the layers of flavor... : ) Yeah, it ain't Grand Cru, but I can do $10 easier than $35-75.

BTW, the 2006 Liberte Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles ($9.99), the Sebastopol Hills, Pinot Noir ($9.99) and the 2007 Cambria Pinot Noir ($16) are all yummy and worth checking out.

Now, should I bring the CdP, the Cab or the Petit Verdot for dinner at Mom's? Hmm, maybe all three and let my brother decide what sounds good.

Everyone have a Cool Yule!

A friend served RSVP Champagne last night. Without a doubt the best 5.99 champagne I have ever tasted. I do know champagne with my favorite being any bottle by Krug, but this tasted like a very good 20 to 30 dollar bottle of French wine. If it is not sold out, get all you can.

Yeah, I'm not surprised since the "winery" is based in Ceres, CA. Not a hot bed of quality wine activity ; )

I decided to splurge on the PV. I know, I know, it's usually used for blends but I was intrigued. The Frequent Flyer calls it "a deep and powerful wine." It starts out with some weight to it, and it's a bit fruity but then it doesn't really seem to go anywhere—not much of a finish. I can't say it was worth the $13. But I can't resist trying new wines.
